Study Reveals Internet is Now Main Source for Hiring in the U.S.

NEW YORK CITY (M2 Communications) February 13, 2006 — The Internet is now the main source of hiring for employers, according to an industry study conducted for DirectEmployers Association, a non-profit consortium of more than 200 US employers.

The study, conducted by Booz Allen Hamilton, a strategic management and technology consulting company, looked into the hiring practices of US companies. It revealed that Internet sources generated 51% of all hires in 2005, with the corporate websites of the employers found to be the largest source of hires, and classified adverts in newspapers accounting for just 5% of the new hires.

Within the Internet sourced hires, corporate employment web sites accounted for 21%, general job boards 15%, niche job boards 6%, social network web sites 5% and commercial resume databases 4%. Employers said that the best quality candidates and highest return on their investment came from their own corporate web sites and from employee referrals.

Employers also revealed that employment related spending will be increased in the areas of corporate employment web sites (74%), employee referrals (68%) and social networking technology (60%). Booz Allen Hamilton said the study demonstrates the way in which the Internet has changed the methods used in the US to attract and hire employees.
